Moschino Resort 2019

Send in the clowns.

Jeremy Scott has been known to deliver some outrageous themes in the past. From McDonalds to paper dolls, Moschino continues be Italy’s manufacturer of the wild and the wacky. This resort collection is no exception, and proves to be the most ambitious for Scott to date. With reported cotton candy, popcorn, and a Ferris wheel, the Moschino Resort 2019 show was, in every sense of the word, a spectacle.

The circus came to town with Scott himself, acting as both designer and ringmaster, strutting out into the middle of the tent to address the crowd of editors, celebrities, and children alike. As the models took center stage (literally) some bounced down the runway before finding their way into the center of the ring (not a trip over a clown shoe in sight!) to interact with giant baby bottles and barbells. Clad in clown costumes, leotards, feathers, sequins, oversized ties, pant dresses, crop tops, bell bottoms, capes, and corsets, the models surprised us look after look. Among the Blossom-esqe, flower appliqué hats and jaguar print man-o-tard (a man leotard, copyright Xavier Totor) a lighter fare emerged. Wearable color-blocked leather jackets, a sensible translucent dress, and wildly colored, yet street-friendly combat boots stomped the circus tent.

The entirely immersive experience is an homage to Scott’s ability to not only tell a story, but make the pages from a book come to life in front of our very eyes. His commitment to his narrative is boundless. His designs of a steady hand. His big ideas compliment his attention to finer details. Nothing is lost in translation.

As always, what the collection lacked in wearability made up for in spirit, a trade the Moschino customer doesn’t seem to mind at all.
