OSCAR de la RENTA RESORT 2019

Updated: May 29, 2018

Put her in a pastel.

Still riding the Royal wedding wave where Oscar de la Renta was asked to dress the mother of the bride, Doria Ragland, co-directors Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia continue their mother-of-the-bride theme with some pastel dresses that are easy to wear.

In past seasons, it was easy to see an attempt to inject more casual wear into the Oscar Girl’s vocabulary, but this resort season tightened up the ship a bit. A departure from the formal only visible in wide-leg shorts paired with jackets or sweaters, the collection largely seemed to cater to a crowd still clinging desperately onto a life sans streetwear.

Classic pattern reigned supreme in the studio at Oscar this Resort season, toile, polka-dot, and wide stripes all made an appearance. We even saw a Grecian ruins splashes across a huge brimming gown.

Oscar, known for its dresswork, saw only a few opportunities to flex its old skills. The dresses in this collection were much more wearable, focusing on applique and structured silhouettes to create dramatic effect, rather than sweeping skirts.

This dynamic duo never had Oscar the man out of mind when design for Oscar the brand, however. Season after season the air has managed to move from paying homage to the late designer to incorporating his aesthetic into clothes for the same client, but through younger hands.
