Has VLTN succumbed to Logomania?
This year’s Valentino Resort 2019 presentation in New York City was reportedly inspired by the streets of Rome. Combining low-brow streetwear and high end fashion has become more relevant than ever, and the trend continues at Valentino.
We saw a lean toward logo-mania, whether Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli is willing to admit it or not. Touted as a mere design tool, the Valentino name was used as an accent splashed across the back of shirts, capes, and jackets. An interesting choice for a consumer base who seek classic, high end designer goods.
Nevertheless, there are plenty of bohemian inspired dresses and tops in an array of handkerchief-like patterns, a la Resort collects, known for their wearability.
Tops and skirts in scalloped patterns sprinkled with blues and reds reigned supreme. Lending an effortlessness to the House, juxtaposed to the usual pomp and circumstance associated with the Couturier.
Blue was the color of choice, used as a great anchor to keep the collection consistent throughout. Paired with the red of the House and white and black elements, the cooling tones allowed for the exquisite tailoring and clean lines to take center stage.
